Chris enjoys generalised medicine as a GP, with the breadth and wide scope of general practice, the continuity of care and the journey with the patient. He thinks general scope of practice is his specialty. Chris graduated as a doctor in 2010 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He chose to pursue rural GP training based in rural hospitals and practices in the Highland and Islands of Scotland and fully qualified as a GP in August 2016.
Chris moved to Alexandra with his wife in September 2016 and worked to obtain his New Zealand GP fellowship as a further extension of his training in February 2018. Chris loves living in Alexandra and finds the people and the local scenery like Scotland – but with better weather!
Chris has done further training in skin assessment and surgery with dermoscopy and minor surgery courses through the Skin Cancer college, Australasia. He really enjoyed this element of work and is able to offer minor surgery for skin lesion excision, toe nail resections and joint injections. Chris has gained more experience and worked with his nursing team to undertake employment medicals and enjoys working with seasonal workers in Central Otago.
He enjoys keeping fit and active and likes to bring that approach into general practice.
