Dr Kate Dixon

Kate is a fully registered GP with experience working in a number of hospital specialties, including acute care roles, child health, medicine and surgery. She is enthusiastic, professional, passionate and dedicated.  Kate has developed a specialist interest in rural general practice and for this reason selected enhanced rural GP training in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. She feels rural medicine is constantly providing new and different challenges. 

Kate has developed a special interest in child and women’s health and really enjoys meeting patients with their families and feels privileged to provide this care.  She has developed an interest in medical education and will be supporting medical students, nurse practitioners and nurses to develop their skills and practice.

Kate moved to Alexandra with her husband in 2016 and they look forward to raising their family in Central Otago, enjoying the opportunities to explore the tracks and lakes.

Emma Hyslop – Nurse Practitioner

Emma is a very experienced nurse with advanced training in examination and decision making.  This additional training enables her to work at a similar level as a GP – she can prescribe medications, diagnose, refer to specialists and request tests such as ultrasounds and xrays. 

Emma has also completed training in Emergency Care – St Johns PRIME training, acute care such as assessment of chest pain, breathless, wounds, injuries, ACC injuries, minor illnesses, skin minor surgery – punch biopsy, sexual health check ups, diabetes, older persons health and care planning. 

She is well supported by the HealthCentral GPs and she will work closely with them to provide you with the best possible care.

Dr Martyn Williamson (Casual Locum)

Dr Martyn Williamson has specialist interests in musculoskeletal medicine, including acupuncture and medical research.  He continues teaching at the Otago School of Medicine in Dunedin.  

Recently he has developed an interest in the power of nutrition in treating or curing common chronic diseases in ways which surpass the effect of most modern medicines which merely treat the effects of the disease rather than cure. He completed the Cornell University (USA) Certificate of Plant Based nutrition in July 2017. 

He comes from a well-known local cycling family, and has enjoyed coaching young athletes, with national and international success.

Dr Greg Hunter (on extended leave)

Greg has an interest in older person’s health, dermatology, Orthopaedics and General Medicine.  Greg was born, grew up and educated in Dunedin.  He has been in Alexandra since 1980.  Greg is married to Liz and have 2 grown up children and 3 grandchildren.  Greg tries to keep fit and active with running, biking and other water and snow sports.

Dr Chris Mullholland

Chris enjoys generalised medicine as a GP, with the breadth and wide scope of general practice, the continuity of care and the journey with the patient. He thinks general scope of practice is his specialty.  Chris graduated as a doctor in 2010 in Aberdeen, Scotland.  He chose to pursue rural GP training based in rural hospitals and practices in the Highland and Islands of Scotland and fully qualified as a GP in August 2016. 

Chris moved to Alexandra with his wife in September 2016 and worked to obtain his New Zealand GP fellowship as a further extension of his training in February 2018.  Chris loves living in Alexandra and finds the people and the local scenery like Scotland – but with better weather! 

Chris has done further training in skin assessment and surgery with dermoscopy and minor surgery courses through the Skin Cancer college, Australasia. He really enjoyed this element of work and is able to offer minor surgery for skin lesion excision, toe nail resections and joint injections.  Chris has gained more experience and worked with his nursing team to undertake employment medicals and enjoys working with seasonal workers in Central Otago. 

He enjoys keeping fit and active and likes to bring that approach into general practice.

Dr Leon Wright

Leon has a varied history with working in Paediatrics in Dunedin, Traumatology in West Germany, Anaesthetics in South Otago and has been a rural GP in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.  He holds a Fellowship in the New Zealand and Australian College of General Practitioners and is a member of the Irish College.  His first degree was in Microbiology (Honours) which was then followed by his medical degree from the University of Otago.  In addition, he has gained further qualifications in Obstetrics, General Practice and Dermatology.

His family originates from Central Otago.

Dr Katya Bazley

Dr Katya Bazley is an experienced doctor who has worked in Alexandra for the last 14 years.  Katya is a graduate of Otago Medical School and completed her clinical training in Christchurch.  She obtained a diploma in Paediatrics (Children’s medicine) and worked in areas of women’s health and mental health.  She worked in the Soloman Islands and then at Rolleston Medical Centre prior to coming to Alexandra.  Katya enjoys Youth and Women’s health and sees a number of Mental Health patients.  Katya enjoys the variety of General Practice.  Katya is an advocate for Woman’s and Youth health and visits the Youth Health Centre every week for a free drop in clinic at Community House and also provides care to the wool industry workers.  Katya is experienced in working with a wide variety of patients and likes to provide friendly, personal care.

Katya is married to Jonathan and they have 4 children who all enjoy the outdoors of Central Otago.  Her family are involved in the local community. Katya welcomes new patients to join her in this high quality practice, where the team can provide you with continuity and compassion.
